1. Consider Donating: If you have some items that you no longer have use for consider donating these items. Collect all the items you are going to donate in one place. As you start to pack you will find more items for the donation pile. A couple days prior to your move call good will to find the best way to pass these items on.
2. Don't over-think your donations: Haven't worn that shirt in a year or two, you can probably donate it.
3. Your Pantry: Try to keep grocery shopping to a minium the last month before your move and use all the old cans of soup and packaged goods that haven’t expired. Then you won’t have to pack food as part of your move and you will have cleaned out your pantry. If you run out of food go out for a bite to eat. Chances are you will need a break from the stresses of packing anyway, and the chef of the house will surely appreciate it.
4. Professional Movers Guide: Moving inter-state? Ask your mover for a copy of,Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. Movers are required to provide you with this when asked. If the mover doesn’t have this consider it a red flag.
5. Time off from work: Take two to three times as much time off work as you think you will need. It is possible that you can move your whole house in three days. But do you really want to? Moving is really stressful, be kind to yourself and your family and take more time off.
6. Cleaning House: Send a family member ahead or hire cleaning service to clean your home before moving in. It makes much more sense to clean before all of your stuff is moved in.
7. Are you hiring a reputable mover? Reach out to the American Moving and Storage Association and be
sure your mover is a member. www.moving.org

company you are thinking about hiring for your move.
