So, the day is fast approaching. No matter how much you try to ignore it, your moving day is coming. You are on the right track, though, searching for information on how to pull off a great move. Here, we’ll talk about some of the most popular moving equipment, and whether or not it fits into your particular moving needs…
1. Moving Truck
Easily the most conspicuous piece of moving equipment, the moving truck or van is obviously a big help for those of us with lots of stuff. Whether you drive it yourself or have a moving crew that comes with it, this vehicle will save you lots of time and trips on your moving day. If you’re on the fence about whether or not you need one, you probably do. Trucks are available in a wide variety of sizes, though most people probably underestimate the size of truck they’ll need. Before booking your vehicle, ask yourself if the extra $10 or $20 to go one bigger would be worth saving if you ended up having to make an extra trip.
2. Dolly
The dolly, or hand truck, may be the most under-appreciated piece of moving equipment. Watch any team of professional movers and you’ll always see them with a dolly. That’s because they know it’s pointless to stack two or three boxes in their arms and carry them in, when they could be moving five or six boxes (or more) in one trip, with much less effort and strain. If you’re moving yourself, or having friends and family help, do yourself a favor and rent or borrow a dolly for the day. You’ll likely find yourself and your moving crew quite a bit more well-rested and happy than they would have been without it.
3. Moving Boxes and Supplies
Most people don’t consider the specific moving boxes or supplies they purchase to be all that critical to their move. In reality, these are the only items that will directly touch your possessions, making them very important to the safety of your things during your move. Your best bet for moving boxes are new boxes that meet or exceed industry standards for strength and durability. You will want a wide range of sizes, as well as some specialty boxes like wardrobe boxes, file boxes, frame boxes, etc. The right moving supplies are specifically designed to protect your valuables. For dishes, or any other stackable items, you’ll want packing paper, whereas odd-shaped breakables likely require bubble wrap. And don’t forget strong packing tape (close all boxes) and a thick black marker for labeling your boxes.
This is just a small sample of the various moving equipment you may want to employ on your moving day. Don’t forget that every move is different and you need to figure out your own particular mix of moving equipment and supplies.
